Data Systems
We are collaborating with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to develop an AI-driven Large Language Model (LLM) for health and disease modelling studies. Using the Flan-T5 platform, our goal is to create tailored briefs that effectively communicate complex findings to diverse audiences in LMICs, enhancing science communication through AI.
We are collaborating with the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria to develop an AI-driven large language model for science communication. This project leverages design thinking and co-creation to enhance access to age-appropriate sexual and reproductive health information for adolescents and young people, aligning with national guidelines and connecting them to essential services.
We have initiated a project to develop Nigeria's National Health Information Exchange, creating a centralised data repository and exchange platform for public and private health systems. This platform will aggregate and standardize data across various sectors, supporting the country's health sector renewal program. The data will be securely held in a legal trust, ensuring government ownership and long-term sustainability.
Our Health and Disease Modelling Institute recently led a Geospatial Modelling project for vaccine-preventable diseases, integrating socio-economic, disease incidence, and immunisation data. In collaboration with the FCDO and the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, we conducted Geospatial Analysis for zero-dose action in Kano and Lagos States, Nigeria. This project enhances capacity for modelling excellence, supporting informed decision-making in immunisation programs. Through our institute, we provide technical assistance, foster learning exchanges, and offer expertise in various modelling areas, including vector-borne diseases, vaccines, climate impacts, and health technology assessments, positioning Nigeria as a leader in health and disease modelling across the continent.
We developed and deployed CHIMIS, an integrated Health Insurance Management Information System. CHIMIS connects enrollees, healthcare providers, and State Health Insurance Agencies to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve care quality. This locally designed tool supports enrolment, service provision, claims management, and data management, enabling future actuarial studies.
We partner with the e-gov Foundation to deploy and maintain the DIGIT platform for integrated Health Campaign Management in Nigeria. This system supports digitisation of campaigns for Malaria, Immunisation, and Neglected Tropical Diseases, enhancing planning, implementation, and evaluation. DIGIT has been successfully used in Mozambique and will be tested in Nigeria
