Programme Associate (Emergency Preparedness & Response

The Programme Associate (ERP) is a Senior role on our Health Division Team and this colleague will spend 75% of his/her time providing strategic leadership and technical expertise in designing, implementing, and evaluating emergency response programmes to address emergencies and crises and 25% of his/her time working collaboratively with the Emergency Response Team and other relevant stakeholders to ensure timely and coordinated responses during emergencies.

Roles and responsibilities

The Programme Associate will have a Master’s degree in Emergency Management, Public Health, International Development, or a related field and 6-7 years of relevant experience in public health project management, public health intelligence, management consulting, and lead operational delivery on projects and measurements, including monitoring, evaluation, learning, partnership and stakeholder management, and technical writing. Candidate should also have relevant experience to be able to support the management of workshops, expert/stakeholder consultations, in-country presentations, and coordination activities for programmes and projects across the country. Experience in engaging with the government is desirable. Knowledge of humanitarian principles, international standards, and best practices in emergency response is a plus. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English. The candidate will possess good interpersonal skills, strong organisational, time-management, and prioritisation skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, will be comfortable showing flexibility and adaptability to handle diverse tasks and changing priorities, show attention to detail, and have the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.

Some specific responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the development of comprehensive emergency preparedness and response strategies aligned with organisational goals and best practices.
  • Support the identification of risks and vulnerabilities and the development of mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee the implementation of emergency response projects, including resource mobilization, budget management, and timeline adherence.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation frameworks for emergency response programmes.
  • Monitor project progress, evaluate outcomes, and identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on programmatic achievements and challenges.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices dissemination to enhance preparedness and response capabilities.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to staff and partners on emergency response protocols and procedures.
  • Support the development of communication materials to raise awareness about emergency preparedness and response.
  • Carry out any other task that may be assigned within their capacity, toward the advancement of the organisation.
