Programme Associate

The Programme Associate is a Senior role on our Health Division Team and this colleague will spend 75% of his/her time working on the delivery of ongoing and new projects (covering diverse areas such as vertical disease control programmes, AMR, Supply Chain, evaluations and assessments, etc) and 25% of his/her time on supporting business development to grow our portfolio in Nigeria and in the region.

Roles and responsibilities

The Programme Associate will have a bachelor’s degree in medical or health sciences, public policy, statistics, or related fields. A Master’s degree or equivalent in public health, reproductive health, or equivalent is desirable. Candidate will have 6-7 years of relevant experience in public health project management, public health intelligence, and management consulting, and lead operational delivery on projects and measurements, including monitoring, evaluation, learning, partnership and stakeholder management, and technical writing. Candidate should also have relevant experience to be able to support the management of workshops, expert/stakeholder consultations, in-country presentations, and coordination activities for programmes and projects across the country. Experience in engaging with the government is desirable. A demonstrated experience in reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health and nutrition (RMNCAH+N) programme management, with an understanding of health systems strengthening.

Experience working with FMOH/SMOH and NPHCDA/SPHCBs, and an understanding of how the public sector works, as well as the political environment in which RMNCAH+N programs are implemented. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English. The candidate will possess good interpersonal skills, strong organisational, time-management, and prioritisation skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, will be comfortable showing flexibility and adaptability to handle diverse tasks and changing priorities, show attention to detail, and have the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.

Some specific responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the design and development of new projects, across key programmes.
  • Oversee the development, operationalization, and revision of project work plans to ensure that activities are carried out as and when scheduled.
  • Review and establish improved mechanisms, guidelines, and operating principles for project management.
  • Plan, organize and coordinate project-specific capacity-building events.
  • Participate in and in some cases lead constituency interface activities such as advocacy visits and monitoring activities.
  • Represent the organisation at meetings with partners, coalition members and key constituencies.
  • Prepare the project management systems for portfolio reviews and evaluation.
  • Oversee production of project reports.
  • Carry out any other task that may be assigned within their capacity toward the advancement of the organisation.
