Director of People and Culture

The Director of People and Culture is a senior level role on our team who will spend majority of their time leading the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of strategies to identify and recruit top-level talent, advance personnel growth and well-being, and strengthen compliance with an evolving labour landscape in Africa.

Specific responsibilities

The Director of People and Culture will shape the organisation’s culture to reflect its values and mission by fostering an inclusive work environment. They will manage various aspects of people, culture, and human resources including:

· Create, maintain, and transform the workplace culture by actively working on aligning the work environment with the company values and mission.

· Develop and execute HR strategies that support the overall business strategy.

· Implement HR initiatives that promote employee engagement, transform company culture, and create a work environment that supports employees’ physical and mental wellbeing.

· Work to highlight diversity, equity, employee engagement, and satisfaction towards building a more inclusive and supportive workplace that focuses on the employee’s experience within the organisation.

· Evaluate company structure and design to achieve business goals through workforce planning and talent management strategies.

· Ensure that HR practices comply with labour laws and regulations and manage HR-related risks and legal matters to protect the organisation.

· Promote open and effective communication between employees and management.

· Enforce policies that prevent discrimination and promote equal opportunities for all employees.

· Oversee learning and development programs that enhance employee skills, career growth, and leadership development; and

· Review metrics and analytics to measure the effectiveness of HR programmes and make data-driven recommendations to improve HR processes.

Competency requirements

The Director of People and Culture will hold a bachelor’s degree in human resources, psychology, or business administration. An advanced degree in business administration or human resources would be an advantage. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of relevant experience preferably in health and healthcare in international settings. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of labour and employment laws, and excellent written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English. Knowledge of French or Portuguese is an added advantage. The candidate will possess good interpersonal skills, strong organisational, time-management, and prioritisation skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications. The ideal candidate will be comfortable showing flexibility and adaptability to handle changing business priorities, show attention to detail, and have the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
